Lake Ihema
Akagera's Crown Jewel — A Boat Safari Paradise
Lake Ihema is the largest lake in Akagera National Park and a highlight for boat safaris. Visitors can spot hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species while enjoying breathtaking sunset views over the water. It is one of the best locations for photography and peaceful nature experiences inside the park. The lake stretches along the park's eastern boundary and is fed by the Akagera River system. Its papyrus-fringed shores are teeming with life — from massive pods of hippos to Nile crocodiles basking on the banks. Bird watchers flock here for sightings of the African fish eagle, malachite kingfisher, and the elusive shoebill stork.
